My name is Shelley Kenow.  I am originally from Carlyle, but have lived in Albers for the last 13 years.  I have been married to my wonderful husband, Kevin, for 23 years.  We have one amazing child and a very lovable dog.
In one way or another, I have been involved in education my entire life, first of course by attending elementary school and high school in Carlyle.  I received my Bachelor's Degree from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.  I worked as a paraprofessional for 2 years,  as a substitute teacher and substitute paraprofessional for 14 years, and this is my eleventh year teaching full time, ten of them here at Aviston.   I have taught Sunday School, been an Instructor for therapeutic horseback riding for children with disabilities, and a youth group leader.
I believe that children, like flowers, will blossom when given love, attention, nurturing, and individual care.  I agree with William Shakespeare, that while we know what we are now, we don't know what we will become. I love helping children reach for and achieve their potential.
I like to share with children the life cycle of the butterfly: the caterpillar grows, struggles, and completely changes before becoming a beautiful butterfly and how our lives compare with that butterfly.
