Mrs. Tami KampwerthSuperintendent

Phone Number: 618-228-7245, ext. 105

As the superintendent and principal at Aviston Elementary, my days are very busy. Because this is a combined position, I work with students, teachers, parents, finance, state compliance, federal compliance and a host of other topics too numerous to mention. Fortunately, I have a lot of experience in education that helps me daily.  I graduated from Triad High School and later graduated from Belleville Area College.  I received a bachelor’s degree in English education at Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and began my teaching career at East Alton Middle School in 1988.  In 1994, I completed a master’s degree in elementary education and I soon followed up with additional coursework in administration. In 1999, I became the assistant principal at North Middle School in Alton. In 2000, I was hired as principal at Hillsboro Junior High School in Hillsboro.  After five years there, I found my very favorite job ever here at Aviston Elementary School in 2005. I completed the work for my doctorate at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 2007, finally completing my formal educational journey. However, as a lifetime learner, I know there is always something new on the horizon.

Prior to Aviston, I only worked with 6-8th grade students so learning about preschool and primary students is fascinating.  The very best perk of my work here is watching children grow from preschool to eighth graders; what a blessing it is to be part of that growth!

I have been married since 1979 to my husband, Dan. We have two grown children, Nathan (wife Lori) and Samantha Haukap (husband Noah), who are both graduates of Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. While our nest is empty, we aren’t lonely because we have three granddaughters nearby.  I’m very active at my church and enjoy singing in the choir and serving on various boards and committees. I love all kinds of music and I read constantly. My husband and I enjoy dining out, rooting for the Cardinals and our golf clubs are always packed and waiting.

My door is open, my phone extension is 105, and my email is  I’m here to listen, mediate, advise, and help your child have the best possible experience during his/her elementary years.  This is a busy building with many classes, activities, and employees, so communication is key. Contact me with your concerns and questions; I’ll do my best to assist.
